Ever heard of the temples that move?
That’s right! Abu Simbel is home to two incredible rock-cut temples that were literally moved to a new location to save them from being flooded.
Imagine this:
- Colossal statues: The Great Temple’s entrance is guarded by four massive statues of Ramses II, each over 65 feet tall!
- Solar magic: Twice a year, on February 22 and October 22, the sun aligns perfectly to illuminate the inner sanctuary of the Great Temple.
- Dedicated to love: The Small Temple is dedicated to Ramses II’s beloved wife, Nefertari. It’s a testament to their love story.
